Lynmouth to Combe Martin
Start and Finish
From Lynmouth to Combe Martin (or Ilfracombe)
Distance
13 miles (or16 miles)
Type of Walk
Steeply up from Lynmouth (or you can use the cliff train to Lynton). Out of the town, the cliff path is exceptionally flat though high, leading to the Valley of Rocks and on to the pretty Lee Abbey. The walk becomes more strenuous, heading inland at Heddon's Mouth, then up to Great Hangman (1043ft),the highest point on the South West Coastal Path. And then on down into Combe Martin.
For more choice of overnight facilities, the extra walk to Ilfracombe and its great harbour and pubs is worth considering.
Points of Interest
The high cliff walk out of Lynton; spooky Valley of Rock; the coves beyond Lee Abbey; lunch inland from Heddon Mouth at Hunter's Inn (in a majestic cleave in the Exmoor uplands); the view from Great Hangman.
Recommended because of the great and varied walking, the sublime lunch spot in the midst of remote and mysterious Exmoor, and the stunning views right through the day. We struggle to find accommodation at the end that does the walk justice, recommendations welcome!
