A 13th century hotel with a smuggler history, cob walls and a thatched roof, plus 16 acres of gardens and meadows towards the rugged coastline around here. A half mile detour from the south west coastal path, but worthwhile on this fairly long stretch between Clovelly and Westwood Ho! without much else in the way of accomodation options. 13 en suite rooms from £65 for a single and £95 for a double. The food is very local and very fresh and the wine list features 220 bins. The restaurant has oak panelled walls and period furniture to suit the degree of formality, while the bar is more casual and less expensive.
