Branscombe to Lyme Regis
Start and Finish
From Branscombe nr Beer to Lyme Regis
Distance
11miles
Type of Walk
Zig zag up Hooken Undercliff from Branscombe Beach, down into the charming fishing village of Beer (with fabulous rock pools full of hermit crabs) and on to Seaton. Then through the world-famous wooded undercliff into Lyme. Once you commit to the Lyme undercliff their is no escape route - the walking is not tricky, but there are no facilities for about 7 miles.
Recommended because of the two tremendous undercliff sections - often very quiet and peaceful. Plus great accommodation options in Branscombe and Lyme, and the charm of Beer.

Points of Interest
Branscombe is a great place to start the day - especially if you're staying in the Mason's Arms. The stroll to the beach is fine, as is the drama of the beach at Branscombe Mouth. Both undercliff sections are very beautiful and feel semi-tropical as the vegetation benefits from a great deal of warmth and sunshine. Beer is well worth exploring, some decent pubs and shops, and some great rocks to explore. The undercliff towards Lyme (named by The Telegraph as one of the Top 50 Walks in the World) is very dense, so there are limited views, but the atmosphere (as captured in the novel and film A French Lieutenant's Woman) is wonderful; and the approach into Lyme Regis offers very welcoming views (with detour to enjoy the Cobb).
